Regarded as one of the most influential plays of the 20th century, “Awake and Sing!” chronicles the lives of the Bergers, a Jewish family struggling to survive The Great Depression. Gritty, heartbreaking, and often hilarious, Odet’s 1935 masterpiece captures both the dreams and struggles of an unforgettable American family. Can hope survive, or will reality tear the complex and loving family apart?

The Group Theatre production premiered on Broadway 84 years ago (almost to this very day — Feb. 19, 1935). Directed by Harold Clurman, the cast starred Luther Adler, Stella Adler, Morris Carnovsky, John Garfield, and Sanford Meisner.
We hope you will join us Monday night to experience this truly legendary and powerful masterpiece.
